Can You Use Guided Strike on a Spell

The Paladin calls it beginning
Guided Strike has to be used before the assail is declared a hit or miss. The Shield spell can be used after the attack hits (and so it will e'er plough a striking into a miss, if used correctly).
Shield
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you are hit past an attack [...]
You lot use Shield after the DM has alleged the hit. Contrast this with Guided Strike:
You make this choice after you run into the roll, only earlier the DM says whether the assault hits or misses.

Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you are hit by an attack... - PHB, p275, emphasis mine.
You cannot await until afterwards the Shield is announced, because your conclusion has to come before the hit is announced, and Shield comes after.
Until the start of your adjacent turn, you take a +5 bonus to AC, including against the triggering attack...- ibid
Shield is retroactive, guided strike is not.
